Six years ago, Candy always wanted to find a job where she could grow and evolve as an individual. However, she was working three jobs to pay the bills, and in order to work in the mortgage industry, she would have to leave the financial security she had already established. She was scared that if she went after a new career opportunity, she would be living paycheck to paycheck and struggling to make payments. Through strong work ethics, focus and above all else, grit, she has been living her dream in helping people with their financial needs, and she enjoys putting a smile on their faces when they move into their new home.
On Friday May 29, 2020, at 4:45PM, after finishing up my firm's COVID response, I was let go. I worked there for ten years climbing up the corporate ladder. And every single year, I went through the same old roller coaster of emotions where I was unhappy one day, and then the next day, I would convince myself that this was normal. That it was normal to be unhappy with your job. Don't get me wrong, I met some incredible people, some astounding people, but when the company's actions do not match the ideals that they preach, and when you see good, hard-working people not get the recognition that they deserve, it takes a strain on one's mind.
So, on May 29th, I saw I was given an opportunity. Now I could create something meaningful. A company that was about honesty, teamwork, and family. A company that was about being client-first by being employee-first. So, I tossed away the Corporate America C-Suite dream, grabbed hold of the Entrepreneurial spirit, and created 1RATE. A boutique mortgage advisory firm focused on meeting clients with a "Four Seasons" experience, striving to become the industry's gold standard, and formulating an organization about training, rewarding, and honoring the individuals who treat everyone like a VIP client.
So far, it's been an amazing journey building something unique and creating a "WOW" experience for every client. We're having a ton of fun, connecting with great people and sharing the redefined experience of 1RATE with everyone we can.

After working in Social Science research and then in the world of Financial Services, Mark decided to take a break and focus on writing his book. He would take jobs officiating sports to provide income for his family, but then COVID happened. The world stopped and everything changed. He began to work at home and through that process, he realized how much he missed his children growing up. All the years on the road and traveling for work, he missed a lot of important moments. Now more than ever, he wants to make sure he will be there for his family.
For Mark, while it was important for him to work at a company that valued the same revelations he learned, he also wanted to find a company that treated their clients with the same respect and care. Well spoken and not afraid to put in the extra work, Mark enjoys learning about his clients and their needs to better help them in their decision.
From owning a 7-Eleven to working in hospitality at a boutique hotel, Michael has consistently had the same philosophy: Client First. He believes by learning every step of the process, he can make sure his clients needs are met. Jovial in nature, Michael will always communicate with his clients to make sure they understand everything that is going on so they are never left in the dark, and he will always tries to find a solution that best matches their interest.
In 2020, Seung was refinancing with a credit union, but the process was incredibly long and drawn out which took over three months to complete. It made him question whether he could do a better job. He looked at all his experience from working in real estate, financial planning and insurance sales, and he knew he had the skills to transition into the mortgage industry. He has over 25 years in the customer service field, and he felt confident he could use his skills to offer a better service to the buyer's experience. When he found 1RATE, a company that aligned with his focus and philosophy, he knew it would be a recipe for success. He has an appetite for always wanting to improve and is not afraid to go above and beyond to deliver the best service.
